FREE CROCHET PATTERN: FARMHOUSE Indian Corn

Indian Corn is a symbol of harvest season, they crop up every fall— those ears of corn with multicolored kernels that adorn doors and grace centerpieces. Make decorating year after year easier with these crochet Indian corn pieces.

Farmhouse Indian Corn

Materials

Suggested yarn:

Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick & Quick or any equivalent weight 6 yarn. Shown in colors (from left to right) Harvest, Sequoia, Spice, Pumpkin, & Mustard.
Polyester fill Twine for sprig

Hook: US 3.75 mm (F). Darning needle
Stitch markers, as needed

Finished size:
7” tall (5” base with 2” Sprig) 2.5” diameter

Pattern

Begin with a magic circle.
Row 1: ch 1, work 6 hdc in circle, join to 1st stitch with sl st
(6 sts). Don’t forget to tighten the circle.
Row 2: ch 1, hdc around, join to 1st stitch with sl st (6 sts).
Row 3: ch 1, [work 2 hdc in st, hdc in next st] around, join
to 1st stitch with sl st (9 sts).
Row 4: ch 1, hdc around, join to 1st stitch with sl st (9 sts)
Row 5: ch1, [work 2 hdc in st, hdc in next two sts] around,
join to 1st stitch with sl st (12 sts).
Row 6: ch 1, hdc around, join to 1st stitch with sl st (12 sts)
Row 7: ch1, [work 2 hdc in st, hdc in next three sts]
around, join to 1st stitch with sl st (15 sts).
Row 8: ch 1, hdc around, join to 1st stitch with sl st (15 sts)
Row 9-11:
Repeat row 8
Stuff corn shell with poly fill until desired firmness

Row 12: Working in back loop only [hdc, hdc decrease] around, join to 1st stitch with sl st (10 sts) Cut & leave 6” tail for closing.
Using a darning needle, run the tail in and out of each of the front loop of the 10 stitches of your final round & again in first stitch of last row (this will create a drawstring closure). Tighten and draw needle through carrot. Cut remaining yarn and weave in ends.

Twine sprig assembly: Wrap twine around 2” sturdy surface (cardboard, fingers, etc.) Wrap around 8 times and cut yarn. With 6” yarn, wrap around middle of pom. Insert hook through middle top closure. Fold twine in half and use hook to pull through top. Wrap twine around hook and pull through. Tighten and fluff to achieve desired look. Trim twine to desired length.
